Miami Heat Highlights

Pacers get even with Heat, tie series 1-1

Miss 24 of 29 shots in a stretch, play on a road game, have your team outscored in a quarter by only two players from the opposing team… What more could be the outcome?

A win.

The Pacers did just that.

The Indiana Pacers watched an 11-point second half lead become a deficit and still squeaked past the Miami Heat 78-75 in Game 2 of their series in Miami on Tuesday night to even out the series at one apiece.

Perhaps a contributing factor was the absence of Chris Bosh who strained a lower abdominal muscle in Game 1. With the Big Three incomplete, the team was left to be carried by LeBron James and Dwayne Wade who led in scoring with 28 and 24, respectively.

Scoring was more balanced with the Pacers as David West scored 16, Danny Granger, George Hill, and Paul George all scored double-digits and combined for a total of 36 points for Indiana.

Game 3 is in Indianapolis on Thursday night.

J.R. Smith and Knicks beat Clippers for a possible 7th seed

The New York Knicks beat the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night for a possible step higher to the No. 7 seed going to the playoffs, that is, if the Knicks want it.

The Knicks nearly squandered an 18-point 4th quarter lead with Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire both on the bench before holding on and beating the Clippers 99-93 at Madison Square Garden.

J.R. Smith put in 21 points while Anthony added 17 to put the Knicks within one win away from finishing the regular season with the No. 7 seed on the way to a first round match up against the Miami Heat. Although analysts are saying that a match up against the top seed Chicago Bulls might give the Knicks a better chance of moving past the first round.

The Clippers, who badly needed to win this game for a home-court advantage, missed the services of Chris Paul. Blake Griffin scored 29 points while Randy Foye added 28 for the Clippers.

Bulls crush Bobcats, inch closer to No. 1 seed

Richard Hamilton made 22 points in just 24 minutes of play to lead the Chicago Bulls a step closer to sealing the number one seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs by crushing the Charlotte Bobcats 100-68 on Wednesday night.

The Bulls played without leading scorers Derrick Rose and Luol Deng who were both nursing injuries. Without their starters, the Bulls’ backup players stepped up and shone brightly in the game.

Joakim Noah and John Lucas each contributed 12 points for the Bulls while Omer Asik added 9 points and 15 boards. The reserve players accounted for 42 points.

Rookie Kemba Walker led the scoring of the Bobcats with 16 points.

The Bobcats made an embarrassing play with a breakaway layup by Matt Carroll who put it in too strong and the follow-up dunk that was to be done by Byron Mullens who was close behind, bounced of his hands and went out of bounds.

The crowd let out an “Ugh!” in unison after the botched play.

The Bulls will face the Miami Heat in a showdown of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference tonight.

Miami overpowers New York, secure Division title

Carmelo Anthony’s 42 points was just not enough as the Miami Heat defeated the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden Sunday night.

Playing in a sea of orange, Sunday night’s game at Madison Square Garden had the atmosphere of a playoff game. LeBron James led the attack against the Knicks with 29 points and 10 rebounds while Dwayne Wade pitched in with 28 points to win the game 93-85 and secure the Southeast Division title. Chris Bosh added 16 for a total of 73 points out of the team’s 93.

Carmelo Anthony scored a season-high 43 points last week in overtime against the Chicago Bulls but his 42-point contribution tonight was just repelled by the Heat. The Knicks sorely missed the services of Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin who are still on the injured list. J.R. Smith scored 16 points for the Knicks.

The Heat strengthened their hold on the second spot in the Eastern Conference while New York fell behind Philadelphia with whom they were tied in seventh place coming into the game.

Bulls pull off overtime win against Heat

The Chicago Bulls pulled off an overtime win against the Miami Heat 96-86 on Thursday night in Chicago.

This was the case even though Derrick Rose, the NBA’s reigning MVP, played poorly with only 2 points on 1 of 13 shooting. Rose just returned from a 12-game absence because of a groin injury when he played on Sunday’s overtime loss to New York where he sprained his right ankle.

The good thing is, the rest of the Bulls picked up where Rose could not contribute. C.J. Watson scored 16 points including the game-tying 3-point shot at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Carlos Boozer had 19 points while Kyle Korver scored 17 to help the Bulls increase their lead in the Eastern Conference to four games.

LeBron James led Miami with 30 points including a 3-pointer off a feed from Wade making the score 83-81 with 49 seconds left. Wade added 21 points while Chris Bosh scored 20 points. The Bulls outscored the Heat in overtime 12-2.

The two teams will clash again at Miami on April 19.

Heat Posts Win Minus Dwayne Wade

The Miami Heat won their game against against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday 98-75 at the American Airlines Arena without the efforts of its second leading scorer Dwayne Wade.

Dwayne Wade missed the game with a sore right ankle. They thought it best to sit him out for this game to rest in preparation for the upcoming games against the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics which are formidable opponents and the Heat will need all the offensive power they can get.

Starting out slow, the Miami Heat then took the lead beginning in the second quarter led by LeBron James with 26 points while Chris Bosh added 22 points and nine rebounds. Most of the starters were already able to rest by the 4th quarter.

This was a welcome bounceback by the Heat as they suffered a loss on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies ending their 17-game home winning streak. The Heat has improved their standings to a league-best 24-3 at home.

Who Are The Favorites to Reach the Finals?

Who will emerge out of the Western Conference to reach the NBA Finals?  The field is really up for grabs, unlike the Eastern Conference.  In the Western Conference you have young teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers.  But you also have old teams that have been there before such as the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs.

There are two favorites to make it to the NBA finals in the Eastern Conference.  The consensus is that these two teams are the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls.  All other teams may look good on paper, but simply don’t have the experience or the talent to go deep into the playoffs.

My bet is that the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat will meet each other in the NBA Finals.  The Thunder are young and quick.  They’re balanced and they play good defense.  The Heat are simply on a tear right now.  They’re blowing past every team.  Miami has unbelievable talent and has the experience from the previous year of making it to the finals.

The season is a little past the halfway mark.  Find some of the best tickets here.  Tickets are sold at discounted prices.  Hurry before they sell out.

Do The Heat Match Up Against the Lakers?

The Miami Heat has become the team to beat.  After defeating the New York Knicks with their full arsenal of stars in the lineup (melo, stoudemire, lin), who else can match up with them?  The team is the beast in the east and maybe in the league.

Can Chicago keep up with Miami?  Not if Derrick Rose isn’t in the lineup.  What about Boston?  I think they’re getting old, and there’s no one on the Celtics that can defend the paint.  New York can be argued to be the third best team in the Eastern Conference, and they were just easily dispatched.

Catch some Heat games against leading playoff bound teams such as the Lakers and the Thunder.  These games are coming up so get your tickets early.

Knicks Playing Tonight vs Miami

This would be an interesting game as the relatively young Knicks will go against the giants of the NBA League. Will Lin be able to pass the strong men of the Miami Heat the likes of Wade, Lebron and bunch of other key Miami Heat players.

By the way, in case you are looking for tickets to the Knicks vs. Miami, it’s probably sold out.

Miami Heat Background

The Miami Heat came into the league in 1988, along with the Charlotte Hornets as part of the NBA's franchise expansion plans. Two more teams were added in 1989, of which were the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Orlando Magic. Arvid Kramer was the team's first expansion draft pick and Rony Seikaly was the team's first lottery draft pick that year.

Historically, you could say the New York Knicks are the Heat's biggest rivals. The two teams had a bitter rivalry in the late 1990s, made signature by the intensity in play and the fights and fouls that were involved. Another component that added to the rivalry was probably the fact that Pat Riley left the coaching position he had with the Knicks to be the new coach and team manager of the Miami Heat.

The Heat have traditionally drafted well and have had their fair share of great players play for the team. Besides today's current players, you'll find Alonzo Mourning, Gary Payton, Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn, Glen Rice, Shawn Marion and Jermaine O'Neal all have played for the team.
