Memphis Grizzlies Highlights

Clippers win 3rd playoff series in 41 years

The Los Angeles Clippers held their ground and made it to the second round of the playoffs after eliminating the Memphis Grizzlies.

This is only the third time in the 41 years of the Clippers franchise that they had a postseason win. The Clippers almost blew a 3-1 series lead over the Grizzlies but finally came through in Game 7 of their showdown. They will face the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the second round.

Chris Paul led the scoring for Los Angeles with 19 points even though he had a strained right hip flexor. Nick Young scored 13 off the bench while Kenyon Martin added 11. It was the biggest margin of victory in the series by the Clippers.

Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol scored 19 apiece for Memphis but wasn’t enough to life them past the determined Clippers. The Clippers bench outscored that of the Grizzlies 25-16.

The Clippers face the Spurs beginning Saturday at San Antonio.

Clippers’ 26-1 run stuns Grizzlies in Game 1

The Los Angeles Clippers made a 26-1 run in the 4th quarter and stunned the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of the Western Conference playoffs Sunday night.

Trailing by 24 points with under 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter,  the Clippers suddenly played like a team on fire, sparking a 26-1 run to cap the game with an amazing stunner as the Grizzlies lost by just one point 99-98. The Grizzlies led by as much as 27 points in the game.

The Grizzlies just collapsed in the 4th quarter, committing five turnovers and failing to take advantage of the seven turnovers that the Clippers also committed. Rudy Gay led with 19 points for Memphis but missed the potential game winning shot with 0.9 seconds left. Mike Conley and O.J. Mayo scored 17 apiece while Marc Gasol contributed 14 for the Grizzlies.

Nick Young played well off the bench, leading the Clippers with 19 points including three 3-pointers during their run in the 4th quarter. Chris Paul had 14 despite a groin injury that kept him sidelined against the Knicks. Blake Griffin shot 17 while Caron Butler had 12 points before leaving the game with a broken left hand.

Game 2 is on Wednesday night.

Memphis Grizzilies Add Gilbert Arenas

Don’t let the Memphis Grizzilies surprise you this year like they did last year when they took out the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the 2011 playoffs.  In the playoff hunt once again, the Memphis Grizzilies are looking to move up in seeding and they’ve done so by adding another scoring option in Gilbert Arenas.

While his prime years are clearly behind him, Gilbert Arenas still has the skills to contribute.  He’s still a talented player that must be accounted for.  That should free up defensive coverages placed on marque players such as Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.

The last stretch of the 2012 NBA season looks challenging for the Memphis Grizzilies.  There will be plenty of competitive games with other playoff bound teams coming up.  Go out and watch how this new Memphis Grizzilies team matches up with other Western Conference powerhouse teams.   Checkout what tickets are available for games against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which is another young and upstart team.

The Memphis Grizzlies play in the Southwest Division under the Western Conference. This is a very competitive division, with the likes of the Spurs, Mavericks and the Hornets. The team was found in 1995 and actually started out in Vancouver, Canada. There the team played for six years before moving to Memphis, Tennessee.

Notable ex-players include Pau Gasol, Mike Bibby, Mike Miller and Shareef Abdur Rahim. Some of their budding stars include Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo, and Marc Gasol.

You might be wondering why the Memphis Grizzlies are named that even though there aren't any Grizzly Bears in Tennessee. Well there are Grizzlies in Vancouver, British Columbia, which is where the team first started. The Grizzly bears are actually very iconic there. When the team moved to Memphis in 2001, it was suggested that the team change its name. However, there was such a public uproar, as the community has endeared itself to the name, that no change was made.
