Jazz dispatch Suns, get final playoff spot

After sitting out for one season, the Utah Jazz are once again in the playoffs, sending Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns into an early vacation.

Al Jefferson left the game with 7:30 still remaining in the third period after sustaining a gash over his left eye. But nothing was going to stop him. After hurrying the doctors to stitch him up, he returned to the game and scored eight straight points late in the fourth to help the Jazz overcome the Suns 100-88 and seal their playoff spot.

On the other hand, the Suns will miss their second consecutive postseason. Star point guard Steve Nash might be playing his last season for the Suns as he becomes a free agent after this summer and is reportedly seeking a three-year deal. Nash finished with 14 points and 11 assists for Phoenix.

The Utah Jazz is a young team and will go to the playoffs with seven of their 14 players younger than 26. Four are 21 or younger.

If things stay put, the Jazz will face the San Antonio Spurs for the first round of the playoffs.
